Getting Started
First Launch
- The app loads with a 6-second animated launch screen
- If you have iOS 17+ Personal Voice set up, the app will automatically select it
- You'll see the main board with Core Words category selected
- Tap any symbol to add it to your phrase, then tap the speak button
Building Phrases
- Tap symbols to add them to the phrase bar at the top
- Use sentence starters ("I want", "I need", etc.) for quick phrases
- Tap the speak button (speaker icon) to speak your phrase
- Tap backspace to remove the last symbol
- Tap clear (X) to clear the entire phrase
Navigating Categories and Symbols
The app includes enhanced navigation buttons for users who prefer not to swipe or need additional accessibility options:
- Category Navigation – Use left/right arrow buttons above the category tabs to move between categories without swiping
- Symbol Grid Navigation – Use up/down arrow buttons on the right side to scroll through rows of symbols
- Quick Jump – Use the top/bottom buttons on the left side to instantly jump to the first or last row of symbols
Voice Settings
- Tap the gear icon (top right) to open Settings
- Select Voice Selection to choose your preferred voice
- Personal Voice (if available) is recommended for the most natural sound
- Adjust voice speed, pitch, and volume per voice if desired
- Enable "Speak on Tap" to hear each symbol immediately when tapped
Edit Mode
- Tap the pencil icon (top right)
- Set up a 4-digit PIN (first time only) to prevent accidental changes
- Enter your PIN to access edit mode
- Add, remove, or rearrange symbols and categories
- Tap the pencil icon again to exit edit mode
Creating Custom Symbols
- Enter Edit Mode
- Tap the "+" button at the bottom
- Choose "Add Symbol"
- Select a category, add a name, and choose a photo from your library or take one with the camera
- The symbol appears in the selected category
